NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of turmeric and coriander fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Wednesday, while those of jeera rose. Prices of turmeric fell due to profit-booking, while those of coriander were down owing to selling pressure. Jeera traded higher on renewed buying interest at lower levels, according to analysts at SMC Global Securities.

TURMERIC prices saw a huge fall due to profit booking, according to SMC analysts. The most-active August turmeric contract was down 3.2% at INR 13,880 per 100 kg. Prices had recovered Tuesday due to higher demand. Analysts at SMC Global Securities see prices supported by empty supply pipelines. "Notably, arrivals in major mandis remained weak by 15–20% during the season due to lower crop production last year," SMC said in a note. The ceasefire in West Asia is likely to have a positive impact on export demand, the brokerage added.

The most-active July contract of JEERA rose 2.4% to INR 19,710 per 100 kg, driven by renewed buying interest at lower levels and expectations of a rise in export demand following the announcement of a ceasefire in West Asia, according to the SMC report. If the rally sustains in the coming sessions, prices may rise further but ample stocks are likely to exert pressure on market sentiment, the brokerage said in its note.

The most-active July contract of CORIANDER was down 0.3% at INR 7,090 per 100 kg due to selling pressure, which is likely to continue weighing on prices, as carryover stocks remain abundant, according to the brokerage. "The medium- to long-term outlook remains bearish. Going forward, market direction will largely hinge on demand dynamics, which remain the key driver under prevailing conditions," the report read.
