Centre approves procurement of moong, urad in Madhya Pradesh, urad in Uttar Pradesh

NEW DELHI – The Centre Tuesday approved the procurement of moong and urad in Madhya Pradesh and urad in Uttar Pradesh under the Price Support Scheme, which buys commodities at the minimum support prices. The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to review procurement logistics with state agriculture ministers.
Following a request from the Madhya Pradesh government, Chouhan approved the procurement of moong and urad under the Price Support Scheme in the state. Similarly, procurement of urad under the scheme has been approved for Uttar Pradesh, the agriculture ministry said in a release. The move aims to provide price support to farmers and ensure fair prices for their produce, the release said.
Chouhan advised increasing the number of procurement centres if necessary and asked states to ensure that the process is carried out fairly and transparently. The government has fixed the minimum support price for moong in the 2024-25 kharif marketing season at INR 8,682 per 100 kilograms, the highest among all pulses. The minimum support price for urad has been fixed at INR 7,400 per 100 kg for the current season. End
