MUMBAI – Prices of tur rose while those of chana and moong were steady Monday in key spot markets across the country, traders said. Tur prices rose, tracking a rise in rates of the pulse imported from Myanmar, traders said. Prices of moong were steady at higher levels, supported by the Madhya Pradesh government's procurement, they said. Prices of chana are likely to rise in the short term due to seasonal demand, they said.

CHANA prices at Indore in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 5,925-INR 5,950 per 100 kg, said Kailash Kakani, a local trader. Prices of chana in Delhi were also steady at INR 5,775 per 100 kg, traders said. Though there is some demand for the legume, it is not substantial enough to push up prices, he said. However, prices are likely to rise in a few days due to demand for chana during monsoon, he said.

Prices could rise by INR 50-INR 100 per 100 kg in the short term as buyers are willing to pay higher rates for good-quality arrivals, Kakani said. "The market is getting more low-quality arrivals than good-quality ones," he said. Prices could rise further in August, when festival demand increases, he said.

TUR prices at Solapur in Maharashtra rose by INR 100 from Friday to INR 6,800-INR 6,900 per 100 kg, said Mukesh Sanklecha, a local trader. About 24–25 trucks with 20,000-25,000 kg of tur each arrived in the market, he said. Prices rose, tracking the rise in prices of imported tur from Myanmar, he said. Prices of tur from Myanmar rose due to tight supplies, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report on Monday.

Prices of tur at Katni in Madhya Pradesh rose by INR 100 from Friday to INR 7,250-INR 7,350 per 100 kg, traders said.

MOONG prices at Kalaburagi in Karnataka were steady at INR 6,000-INR 7,000 per 100 kg, according to the association. Prices of moong at Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were also steady at INR 6,500-INR 7,000 per 100 kg. Prices were steady at higher levels, supported by the Madhya Pradesh government's procurement of the summer crop, Sanklecha said. The minimum support price for moong is INR 8,682 per 100 kg for the kharif marketing season 2024-25 (Oct-Sept), the highest among all pulses. The procurement began on Thursday.  End
