MUMBAI – Prices of all oilseeds were mixed in key domestic markets on Friday. Mustard, groundnut, and soybean prices rose in some markets and were steady in others, said traders. Demand for oilseeds is largely subdued because of lower demand for edible oils. Demand is likely to pick up only during the festival season in September, they said.

Prices of MUSTARD seed at Jaipur in Rajasthan rose by INR 25 to INR 6,775-INR 6,800 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. According to traders, mustard prices are expected to rise in the long-term due to prospects of lower production. The government's third advance estimates project mustard seed output for the crop year 2024-25 (Jul-Jun) at 12.6 million tonnes, down from 13.3 million tonnes a year ago.

Mustard prices in Kota were steady at INR 6,450 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 16,000 bags, down 2,000 bags from the previous day, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. "There is very little demand at the moment as traders and households have already stocked up in May," Sameriya said. The all-India arrivals of mustard were at 450,000 bags, Rajesh Patel, managing director at GGN Research, said.

GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were up INR 600 at INR 4,500-INR 5,800 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a trader from Gujarat. Groundnut demand remains weak due to the availability of cheaper imported palm oil, which is commonly used as a substitute for groundnut oil in cooking. In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, groundnut prices were steady at INR 4,700-INR 5,900 per 100 kg and arrivals were also steady at 1,600 bags, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader.

SOYBEAN prices in the Ratlam market were steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,250 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 3,100 bags, down 400 bags from the previous day, said Porwal. Prices of soybean in the Gondal market were up INR 100 at INR 3,800-INR 4,000 per 100 kg, said Virvani. Prices are likely to continue to move downwards for the next 3-4 months, Virvani said.
