MUMBAI – Wheat prices were up slightly in Kota, Rajasthan, Friday as supply fell in the market amid heavy rains, traders said. However, wheat prices in other key markets were steady from the previous day. Prices of rice and maize also remained steady owing to the lack of fresh cues, traders said.

Prices of WHEAT in Kota rose slightly by INR 5-INR 10 to INR 2,425 per 100 kg, according to local trader Aniket Mehta. Prices increased Friday as arrivals declined to 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 20,000 bags earlier this week, Mehta said. It has started raining in the state because of which farmers are not bringing wheat to the market, he said.

Prices of wheat in Navi Mumbai's Vashi market were steady at INR 2,725 per 100 kg, local wholesale dealer Devendra Vora said. In Delhi, prices of the staple grain were also steady from the previous day at INR 2,735 per 100 kg, according to traders. Vora said prices are likely to remain stable till the end of this month. Traders expect the government to start open market sales of wheat for the rabi marketing year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) in July.

The Food Corp. of India has procured over 30 million tonnes of wheat for the central pool during 2025-26. This has resulted in the disbursement of INR 700.00 billion to 2.38 million farmers as payment of minimum support price.

In 2024-25, the government had sold 3 million tonnes of wheat under the open market sales scheme with a reserve price of INR 2,325 per 100 kg. In 2023-24, wheat sales under the open market scheme were at an all-time high of 9.4 million tonnes. Last year, the reserve price for fair and average quality wheat was INR 2,150 per 100 kg and that for wheat of reduced specification was INR 2,125 per 100 kg.

The price of basmati sella RICE at the Vashi market was steady at INR 6,000-INR 6,100 per 100 kg, Vora said. The price of 1121 basmati rice was also steady at INR 7,800 per 100 kg. The price of broken rice remained stable at INR 2,700 per 100 kg, Vora said. The price of sona masoori rice was also steady at INR 5,200 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada, local trader Ravi Shankar said.

The price of MAIZE in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, remained steady at INR 2,300 per 100 kg, according to traders. As of Jun. 13, the acreage under maize was down nearly 16% on year at 360,000 hectares, according to data from the agriculture ministry.  End
