MUMBAI – India's oilmeal exports in May rose over 4% on year to 315,326 tonnes, according to data released by The Solvent Extractors' Association of India Wednesday. Oilmeal exports in Apr-May were at 781,189 tonnes, up 1.8% from 767,436 tonnes same period last year.

 

Exports of soymeal in May rose to 156,801 tonnes from 144,708 tonnes a year ago. In Apr-May, the soymeal exports were at 387,544 tonnes, against 344,508 tonnes a year ago.

 

Exports of mustard meal fell to 134,562 tonnes in May, from 133,263 tonnes a year ago. In Apr-May, the mustard meal exports were down to 347,586 tonnes from 364,074 tonnes a year ago.

 

Exports of castor seed meal fell to 18,648 tonnes in May from 23,000 tonnes, the association said. On the other hand, exports of groundnut meal rose to 5,315 tonnes in May from 1,311 tonnes in previous year.

 

In Apr-May, a total of 167,325 tonnes of oilmeal was exported from the Kandla port, down from 245,645 tonnes a year ago. Exports from the Mundra port were at 231,939, up from 192,987 tonnes in the year-ago period, according to the SEA data. During the same period, exports from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai rose to 152,442 tonnes from 134,683 tonnes a year ago, the association said. There were no oilmeal exports from the Kolkata port. Around 217,647 tonnes of oilmeal exports were shipped from other ports, compared with 188,307 tonnes in the same period last year, the association said.

 

In Apr-May, India's oilmeal exports to Bangladesh fell 26% to 102,642 tonnes from 139,006 tonnes, the data showed. Exports to South Korea fell 49% on year to 84,966 tonnes, the data showed. Oilmeal exports to Vietnam rose to 40,040 tonnes from 32,699 tonnes a year ago, the data showed. According to the Oil World report, consumption of soybean meal in African countries is rising driven by increasing livestock production and rising share of soybean meal in mixed feed. India, in the first two months of financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) exported over 118,000 tonnes of soybean meal to West Asia and African countries, mainly to Kenya and Kuwait, the SEA said.

 

In Apr-May, India exported nearly 350,000 tonnes of rapeseed meal, mainly to China, South Korea, Thailand, and Bangladesh. This helped support domestic price of rapeseed stay above the minimum support price of INR 5,950 per 100 kg.

 

There were no rice bran meal exports in May. The government prohibited the export of de-oiled rice bran on Jul. 28, 2023. This initial ban was subsequently extended multiple times, with the most recent extension pushing the prohibition to Sept. 30, 2025. The ban is primarily aimed at stabilising domestic prices of cattle feed ingredients.
