MUMBAI – Prices of wheat, rice, and maize were steady in key markets across the country Monday due to lack of new cues, traders said. Arrivals of wheat in Rajasthan's Kota were down due to heavy rainfall in the region, traders said. Wheat market participants now await the government's announcement about open market sales of the grain for the current year.
Prices of WHEAT in Kota were steady from the previous day at INR 2,400-INR 2,425 per 100 kg, a local trader Aniket Mehta said. Arrivals in the market were down by 5,000 bags to 15,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he said. Arrivals fell due to the ongoing rains in the region, he added.
Wheat prices in Navi Mumbai's Vashi market were steady from the previous day at INR 2,725 per 100 kg, a local wholesale dealer Devendra Vora said. Prices of the staple grain rose by INR 50 to INR 2,750 per 100 kg in Delhi, according to traders.
During the rabi marketing season 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), the Food Corp. of India procured over 30 million tonnes of wheat for the central pool. This led to disbursement of INR 700 billion at the minimum support price to 2.38 million farmers. With higher wheat production and good procurement, wheat stocks were up 3.4% on month as of Jun. 1 while, on year, they were up 23.4% at 36.9 million tonnes.
Prices of basmati sella RICE variety in Vashi were steady at INR 6,400-INR 6,500 per 100 kg, Vora said. Prices of broken rice remained steady at INR 2,700 per 100 kg. The price of sona masoori rice was also steady at INR 5,200 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada, a local trader Ravi Shankar said.
Rice stocks with the Food Corp. of India as of Jun. 1 stayed at a two-decade high of 38 million tonnes, up 17% on year. Traders expect rice prices to remain steady in the near term due to lack of fresh cues.
Prices of MAIZE in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,300 per 100 kg, according to traders. With the next crop due to arrive only after October, traders expect maize prices to rise by INR 100 in the near term if demand remains good. End
