India Jun 16 rainfall normal at 6.0 mm, 31% below normal since Jun 1

MUMBAI – India received normal rainfall at 6.0 millimetres on Monday, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, two received below-normal rainfall and two received above-normal showers.
The southern peninsula received 9.2 millimetres of rainfall, 46% above the normal of 6.3 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 28% above average precipitation at 8.5 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 50% below normal at 5.8 millimetres. In northwest India, rainfall was 1.4 millimetres, 31% below the normal at 2.1 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall Friday was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in eight, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in nine, the data showed. There was no rainfall in one subdivision and "normal" showers in two subdivisions.
From Jun. 1 to Sunday, the country received 42.9 millimetres of rainfall, 31% below the normal weighted average of 62.1 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
