NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Friday. While prices of jeera fell on aggressive selling pressure, those of coriander were down on high carry-over stocks and rising selling pressure. Turmeric prices fell owing to higher sowing and demand disruptions following Israel's attack on Iran.
The most active July contract of JEERA fell over 1% to INR 19,685 per 100 kilogram on aggressive selling pressure amid limited buying interest. War like situation in West Asia after attack on Iran is also likely to have bearings on demand, analysts at SMC Global said. Furthermore, with subdued export enquiries and farmers actively offloading stocks, the overall market sentiment appears bearish from a long-term perspective. China new crop arrival in June is keeping pressure on prices, they added. Jeera prices are likely to move in the range of INR 19,540- INR 20,240 per 100 kg as per SMC.
The most active August contract of TURMERIC was down 0.7% at INR 14,700 per 100 kg as sowing activities, which are likely to exceed last years's coverage, continue. Another blow to the commodity may be the recent tensions in the West Asia following Israel's attack on Iran which may negatively impact demand, SMC analysts said. However, prices are expected to rise in the near term due to low supply in domestic markets, they said.
The most active July contract of CORIANDER was down 0.2% at INR 7,024 per 100 kg due to a rise in selling pressure from farmers, subdued buying, and high carry-over stocks, the brokerage said. Looking ahead, the medium-term to long-term outlook remains bearish, as higher price levels are likely to attract further selling from market participants, the brokerage said.
