NEW DELHI – The government has approved the procurement of 54,166 tonnes of moong under its Price Support Scheme in a bid to support farmers and fill up its coffers. The procurement will be done at the minimum support price of INR 8,768 per 100 kg in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat for the summer crop season 2025-26, an official release said.
Additionally, the government has approved the procurement of 50,750 tonnes of groundnut in Uttar Pradesh. The ongoing groundnut procurement in Andhra Pradesh has also been extended by 15 days till Jun. 26, the release said.
As the government aims to become self-dependent in pulses, it has been actively involved in procurement, particularly tur, urad, and masoor, through the Price Support Scheme. The procurement will be managed by central nodal agencies like the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. and the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India Ltd., which buy pulses directly from farmers.
The Price Support Scheme is part of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan, which aims to ensure remunerative prices for farmers' produce and protect their income against market fluctuations. Under the scheme, the government builds buffer stocks and releases them during periods of high prices. End
