MUMBAI – India received 2.5 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, 46% below the normal of 4.6 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, three received below-normal rainfall and one received above-normal showers.
The southern peninsula received 8.0 millimetres of rainfall, 51% above the normal of 5.3 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 84% below normal at 1.5 millimetres. In northwest India, rainfall was 84% below the normal of 2.1 millimetres. Central India recorded 1.7 mm of precipitation, 57% below the normal of 4.1 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Wednesday was "large excess" in three, "excess" in three, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in 11, the data showed. Eleven subdivisions saw no rainfall, while three received "normal" showers.
Since Jun. 1, the country received 26.4 millimetres of rainfall, 34% below the normal weighted average of 40.1 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
