MUMBAI – Futures contracts of jeera and turmeric rose, while those of coriander fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Tuesday. Prices of jeera rose due to a positive outlook for exports of the spice in the medium term, while those of turmeric rose due to concerns of lower production and quality issues in the crop. Prices of coriander fell due to a rise in selling pressure from farmers, they said.

The most-active July contract of JEERA rose 0.1% to INR 19,835 per 100 kg due to a renewed positive outlook for export demand, according to analysts at SMC Global Securities. Jeera prices are likely to turn competitive, which will lead to a rise in export demand, SMC Global said. Currently, export enquiries are quite subdued, the brokerage said.

India exported 229,881.06 tonnes of jeera in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), up 39% on year, according to data from the Spices Board of India.

The most-active August contract of TURMERIC rose 0.6% to INR 14,840 per 100 kg due to concerns over lower production and quality-related issues of the crop, Kedia Advisory said in a note. While the turmeric acreage rose 10% to 330,000 hectares in 2024-25 (Jul-Jun), production is unlikely to follow suit, it said. Quality concerns have led to a price premium for fresh arrivals in markets such as Duggirala in Andhra Pradesh, where new stock is receiving higher bids than older produce, it said.

The most-active July contract of CORIANDER was down 0.3% at INR 7,100 per 100 kg due to a rise in selling pressure from farmers at elevated levels, the brokerage said. The market remains under pressure, weighed down by ample carry-over stocks held by the traders, the brokerage said. The medium-term price outlook appears bearish, with market participants expecting selling interest at higher price levels to continue, it said. Exports of coriander declined 44% on year to 60,323.05 tonnes in FY25, according to data from the Spices Board of India.
