MUMBAI – Crude palm oil production in Malaysia rose more than 5% on month to 1.77 million tonnes in May, according to preliminary data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board released Tuesday. Both month-end palm oil stocks and exports also rose on month, the data showed.
In May, Malaysia's palm oil exports rose nearly 26% on month to 1.39 million tonnes, while stocks rose nearly 7% to 1.99 million tonnes, according to the data.
On Wednesday, a survey by Reuters had projected a rise in Malaysia's palm oil inventories for a third consecutive month in May, driven by a modest recovery in production despite robust export demand. Malaysia is the world's second-largest producer of crude palm oil and India is the largest consumer of edible oils.
At 1048 IST, the most-active August contract of crude palm oil was at 3,906 ringgits (INR 78,799.45) per tonne, down 0.5% from the previous close.
