MUMBAI – Prices of chana and moong were steady, while those of tur were mixed in key spot markets across the country, traders said. Prices of chana were steady as muted demand matched the drop in arrivals, they said. Prices of moong were steady in the lower range following a rise in arrivals of the summer crop, they said. Prices of tur fell in some markets and were steady in others amid subdued demand, they said.

CHANA prices at Indore in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 5,800-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, said Kailash Kakani, a local trader. Prices are steady amid subdued demand and low supply. "There has been no movement in the market as sentiment is low following the extension of the duty-free yellow pea imports," Kakani said. On May 30, the government extended the duty-free imports of yellow peas till Mar. 31, 2026. Yellow pea is a cheaper alternative to chana.

The government's procurement is unlikely to support prices, Kakani said. The government is likely to close its chana procurement operations at 350,000 tonnes, 12.5% of the total sanctioned quantity of 2.8 million tonnes for the rabi marketing season, a senior government official told Informist last week. Currently, the procurement stands at 297,000 tonnes, with the operations likely to continue till the end of June.

Prices of chana in Delhi were steady at INR 5,775-INR 5,800 per 100 kg, traders said.

TUR prices at Solapur in Maharashtra were steady at INR 6,500-INR 6,950 per 100 kg, said Mukesh Sanklecha, a local trader. About 20–22 trucks, laden with 20,000-25,000 kg of tur each, arrived in the market on Monday, he said. Though there was some need-based demand from millers, it was not enough to push prices up, he said.

Prices of tur are expected to remain range-bound at lower levels in the short term, Sanklecha said. Though arrivals of the legume are expected to fall, a rise in prices is unlikely due to subdued demand, he said.

Prices of tur at Kalaburagi in Karnataka fell by INR 59 from Friday to INR 6,000-INR 6,859 per 100 kg, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association. Arrivals rose by 936 bags to 5,943 bags (1 bag = 50 kg).

MOONG prices in Solapur were steady at INR 6,500-INR 7,500 per 100 kg, Sanklecha said. Prices are steady in the lower range, he said. Prices had fallen previously following a rise in arrivals of the summer crop, he said. Farmers are offloading their produce to focus on sowing for the upcoming kharif season, he said.

Prices of moong in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,200 per 100 kg, according to the association.  End
