India imported 13,452 tn of masur from Australia in April, says pulses body

MUMBAI – India imported 13,452 tonnes of masur from Australia in April, according to data compiled by the India Pulses and Grains Association from Statistics Canada. According to the data, Australia exported 53,525 tonnes of masur in April, down 49% from 105,101 tonnes in March. Year to date, exports totalled 772,447 tonnes, down from 842,655 tonnes a year ago. Bangladesh was the top buyer of lentils of Australian origin in April, importing 22,994 tonnes, while Sri Lanka imported 13,105 tonnes.

 

Australia's chickpea (chana) exports declined to 12,061 tonnes in April from 71,779 tonnes the month ago. In the year to April, its exports of the legume totalled 1.8 million tonnes, up a hefty 555% from a year ago, the association said. In April, Pakistan was the top importer of Australian chickpea at 6,315 tonnes, followed by Canada at 1,788 tonnes and the United Arab Emirates at 1,278 tonnes.  End
