MUMBAI – Urad prices are likely to rise in the short term due to seasonal demand during the monsoon, and for the upcoming festival season, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report Monday.

Prices could also rise tracking the rates of imported urad, the association said. Prices of imported urad are expected to rise amid firm demand and tight supplies, it said.

With prices already in the lower range, further fall is unlikely despite ongoing arrivals of the summer crop, it said.

Prices of domestic urad fell in the week ended Saturday due to muted demand from millers, a drop in sales of processed urad or urad dal, and a rise in arrivals of the summer crop, the association said. In the week ended Saturday, prices of urad in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, fell by INR 100 from the previous week to INR 7,100 per 10 kilograms, according to the association.

On the other hand, prices of imported urad rose due to a rise in need-based buying, good demand from Delhi and Chennai due to price parity, and limited Myanmar shipments, the association said. Prices of imported urad in the port city of Chennai rose by INR 25 from the previous week to INR 6,725 per 100 kg, according to the association.  End
