India Apr-Mar spices exports up 17% YoY at 1.8 mln tn; jeera rises 39%

MUMBAI – India exported 1.8 million tonnes of spices in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), up 17% on year from 1.5 million tonnes exported a year ago, according to data from the Spices Board of India. In terms of value, exports of spices rose 6% on year to $4.72 billion in FY25 and total exports were up 8% at INR 399.94 billion, the data showed.
India exported 229,881.06 tonnes of jeera in FY25, up 39% on year, according to the data. Chilli exports jumped 19% on year to 715,506.25 tonnes, the report said. Turmeric exports rose 9% on year to 176,325.34 tonnes, while those of fennel rose a whopping 94% to 76,586.12 tonnes in FY25. Fenugreek exports rose 44% on year to 44,515.97 tonnes and those of ginger increased 116% to 131,359.75 tonnes, the data showed.
Exports of small cardamom grew 9% on year to 6,727.80 tonnes, while those of large cardamom rose 7% on year to 1,368.345 tonnes in FY25. Pepper exports grew 16% to 20,830.15 tonnes. Exports of other spices, which include asafoetida, cinnamon, cassia, cambodge, and saffron, fell marginally by 1% to 74,185.36 tonnes, as per the report.
Exports of celery were up 28% on year at 8,473.42 tonnes, while those of nutmeg and mace fell 8% on year to 4,756.16 tonnes. Exports of garlic, coriander, other seeds, and mint products fell in terms of volume. Exports of coriander declined 44% on year to 60,323.05 tonnes and that of garlic slumped 41% to 43,958.58 tonnes in FY25. Exports of other seeds, which include ajwain seeds, dill seeds, poppy seeds, aniseeds, and mustard seeds, fell 11% on year to 35,109.48 tonnes.
Exports of mint products, which include menthol, menthol crystals, and other mint oils, declined 1% on year to 27,282.92 tonnes. India is the largest producer of turmeric, coriander, and jeera.
