MUMBAI – Mustard prices fell in Rajasthan's Jaipur market, while prices of groundnut and soybean were steady from the previous day, traders said. Market participants do not expect groundnut prices to rise in the near-to-medium term due to rain-damaged arrivals and sluggish demand for the oilseed.

Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur were down by INR 25 at INR 6,675-INR 6,700 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of the seed across the country were down by 50,000 bags to 525,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg).

"Mustard prices have shown recovery since the start of this week ahead of the festival demand. However, with arrivals of crops with high moisture content, price gains are being limited," Mahesh Sameriya, a trader from Rajasthan, said. Mustard prices in Kota mandi were steady at INR 6,200 with arrivals increasing by 1,000 bags to 20,000 bags, said Sameriya.

GROUNDNUT prices were steady at INR 4,300-INR 5,650 per 100 kg at Gondal in Gujarat. "Sluggish global export demand and reduced prices of imported oils are weighing down on domestically produced oilseeds," said Ashok Virvani, a trader from Gujarat. Indian groundnut costs around $900 per tonne, while groundnut produced in African countries costs around $750-$900 per tonne, in global market, he said.

SOYBEAN prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,700-INR 4,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals increased by 800 bags to 3,400 bags.

"Arrivals coming to markets are in huge quantities which is weighing down on soybean prices," said Narendra Porwal, a trader from Madhya Pradesh. Morover, a rise in imports of soyoil along with sluggish demand of soymeal due to availability of cheaper substitutes like distillers' dried gains with solubles or DDGS, is limiting oilseed prices to rise in near-to-medium term, Porwal said.

Soybean prices in the Kota mandi were steady at INR 4,200 per 100 kg, and arrivals were down by 7,000 bags at 10,000 bags, Sameriya said.
