MUMBAI – Prices of groundnut rose in the key market of Gondal in Gujarat on Monday, but mustard and soybean prices were steady in the key markets of Jaipur, Rajasthan and Indore, Madhya Pradesh, respectively.
GROUNDNUT prices rose by INR 100 to INR 4,300-INR 5,650 per 100 kg on Monday, said Ashok Virvani, a trader from Gujarat. "Prices improved a bit at the starting of the week, due to arrivals of good quality seeds, like nabar-66 and G20 varieties which are usually preferred by millers. However, poor export demand may limit gains in oilseed in near-to-medium term," said Mahesh Sameriya, a trader from Rajasthan.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur were steady at INR 6,750-INR 6,775 per 100 kg, according to Sameriya. Arrivals were at 550,000 bags, up 100,000 from Saturday. Prices in the markets of Kota, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 6,200 and arrivals were unchanged from Saturday at 17,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg).
"Mustard prices are improving but at a slow pace," said Sameriya. However, in mid-June, prices are expected to go up due to festival demand. Increasing arrivals are limiting gains in oilseed prices, he added.
SOYBEAN prices in Indore were steady at INR 3,700-INR 4,100 per 100 kg, according to Shailendra Soni, a trader from Madhya Pradesh. Some good varieties of soybean in domestic markets ranged from INR 4,100-INR 4,300 per 100 kg. Arrivals up by 700 bags at 3,300 bags. Soybean prices in the Kota mandi were steady at INR 4,200 per 100 kg, and arrivals were unchanged at 17,000 bags, Sameriya said.
"Soybean demand is poor and moreover there is oversupply of the crop not only in domestic markets but also in international market, so soybean prices aren't expected to rise in medium term. The governmentt has also procured very less this time," Soni said.
