MUMBAI – Mustard prices fell in Rajasthan's Jaipur market due to high moisture content in the seed, traders said. However, prices of groundnut and soybean were steady from the previous day due to lack of new cues.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur were down by INR 50 at INR 6,700-INR 6,750 per 100 kg, according to the Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of the seed across the country were unchanged at 525,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg).
"Mustard prices are expected to rise in long term on expectations of lower production. However, in near term, prices may fluctuate by INR 50-INR 100 everyday," Mahesh Sameriya, a trader from Rajasthan, said. Moreover, seed arrivals with high moisture content in domestic mandis is weighing on mustard prices, he added. Mustard prices in Kota mandi were steady at INR 6,300 with arrivals unchanged at 19,000 bags, said Sameriya.
GROUNDNUT prices were steady from the previous day at INR 4,200-INR 5,550 per 100 kg at Gondal in Gujarat. "Groundnut prices have been under pressure for more than a month now," Ashok Virvani, a trader from Gujarat, said. In the long term, groundnut prices are not expected to rise due to persistently weak export demand and higher production estimates this year, he said. Moreover, seeds damaged by rain are currently weighing down on oilseed prices, he said.
SOYBEAN prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady from the previous day at INR 3,700-INR 4,100 per 100 kg. Arrivals were unchanged at 2,600 bags. For 2025-26 (Oct-Sept) season, the government has raised the minimum support price of soybean to INR 5,328 per 100 kg, up 8.9% on year or INR 436 in value terms.
"An increase in MSP won't help farmers much as there is sluggish demand for the oilseed," said Shailendra Soni, a trader from Madhya Pradesh. Also, high imports by the country and less demand for Indian soymeal in the international market, all together are weighing down on soybean prices," he said. Most of the farmers across the country have already shifted to more profitable crops instead of soybean, he added.
