NEW DELHI – The government has closed its tur procurement operations in most states barring Madhya Pradesh, where procurement will continue until Jun. 10, a senior government official told Informist. The total procurement so far stands at 588,000 tonnes, 45.2% of the total sanctioned quantity of 1.3 million tonnes.
The government sees overall tur procurement reaching 600,000 tonnes by the time procurement closes completely. "Given the market trend, we were anticipating at least 500,000 tonnes of tur procurement, but with the market ruling below the minimum support price, we were able to procure more," the official said. "Arrivals in most states are almost over, so we have wrapped up procurement operations."
The minimum support price for tur in the crop year 2024-25 (Jul-Jun) was set at INR 7,550 per 100 kg. Prices of the legume in the key market of Solapur in Maharashtra were ruling at INR 6,500-INR 7,000 per 100 kg.
At over 212,500 tonnes, the highest procurement so far has been in Karnataka, followed by 156,000 tonnes in Gujarat, and over 133,000 tonnes in Maharashtra, according to data shared by the official. Procurement in Andhra Pradesh was also significant at 71,500 tonnes. For the rabi marketing season 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), tur is being procured under the price support scheme through central nodal agencies such as the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd. and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd.
