MUMBAI – Prices of chana and masur were steady in key spot markets across the country, traders said. Prices of tur were steady in some markets, while they fell in others due to low demand and high domestic arrivals and imports, they said. Prices of chana were steady as demand and supply were subdued, they said.
CHANA prices at Indore in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 6,000-INR 6,050 per 100 kilogram, said Gaurav Kochar, a local trader. Limited demand for the legume is on par with limited supply, he said.
Prices of chana could temporarily rise if the government levies duty on imports of yellow peas, Kochar said. The government is considering a nominal duty of 10% on yellow pea imports, though no final decision has been taken yet, a senior government official told Informist on Friday. As of now, there is no import duty on the commodity till May 31. Yellow pea is used as a cheaper alternative for chana.
Prices of chana in Delhi were also steady at INR 5,800-INR 5,8725 per 100 kg, traders said.
TUR prices at Solapur in Maharashtra were steady at INR 6,500-INR 7,050 per 100 kg, traders said. However, prices at Katni in Madhya Pradesh fell by INR 100 from Tuesday to INR 7,100-INR 7,200 per 100 kg, they said. Prices are under pressure due to limited demand and high domestic arrivals and imports, traders said. Imports of tur from Myanmar have risen, with prices of the shipments down nearly 50% on year at INR 6,400 per 100 kg due to a bumper crop there, they said.
The government has hiked the minimum support price of tur by INR 450 per 100 kg to INR 8,000 per 100 kg for the kharif marketing season 2025-26 (Oct-Sep).
MASUR prices in Indore were steady at INR 6,250-INR 6,300 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Prices have stabilised in the lower range, with the government wrapping up its procurement in Madhya Pradesh, he said. Prices had risen a few weeks ago, supported by the government purchases at the minimum support price of INR 6,700 per 100 kg. The government's approved period for procurement in the state ends on May 31.
Prices of the moti variety of masur at Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were steady at INR 5,900-INR 6,200 per 100 kg, the India Pulses and Grains Association said. Prices of the choti variety in Lalitpur were also steady at INR 6,200-INR 6,600 per 100 kg. End
