The government has procured 562,564 tonnes of tur as of Tuesday, more than 42% of the sanctioned quantity of 1.3 million tonnes for the 2024-25 rabi season, a senior government official told Informist. "Given the market trend, we were anticipating at least 500,000 tonnes of tur procurement, but with the market ruling below the minimum support price, we were able to procure more," the official said. The government is of the view that it will be able to procure about 600,000 tonnes of tur by the end of the procurement season. Procurement operations are likely to continue till the first week of June, the official said. "Arrivals are slowly falling. We will procure for two more weeks to support farmers as crop prices are ruling under MSP and then stop."
