MUMBAI – Urad prices are expected to stay in the same range or fall slightly during the coming week as demand is sluggish owing to rising temperatures, the India Pulses and Grains Association, said in its weekly market outlook.

However, many deliveries are still pending, so prices may stay firm until mid-week and then ease, the association said.

Meanwhile, "summer crop arrivals will pick up in parts of Madhya Pradesh (Jabalpur-Patan), Gujarat (Porbandar-Junagadh), and Uttar Pradesh (Lalitpur)," the pulses body said. An increase in arrivals amid low demand could weigh on prices, it said.

Myanmar free-on-board prices are falling and may drop further. Indian buyers are likely to wait for local summer arrivals to come to markets before making new purchases as demand will remain low for some time, the trade body said.

During the past week, prices of urad from Myanmar and those of the polished variety from Andhra Pradesh fell, as demand from millers was subdued. Demand for processed urad was low owing to reduced consumption during this hot weather, the pulses body said.

Last week, millers and traders stocked up due to India-Pakistan tensions, but after the ceasefire news, buying slowed down. Retailers also have enough stock but demand for urad dal was low, the trade body said.

Weak import prices from Myanmar, steady supply from Andhra Pradesh, and rising arrivals of the summer crop in Madhya Pradesh (Jabalpur-Patan) further added pressure on prices, it said. In the week ended Saturday, prices of urad in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, fell by INR 100 from last week to INR 7,375-INR 7,400 per 100 kg, according to the association. Similarly, prices of imported urad in the port city of Chennai fell by INR 125 from the previous week to INR 7,125 per 100 kg.  End
