MUMBAI – Tur prices are likely to remain weak due to sluggish buying by millers and retailers, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in a weekly market report on Monday. Buyers are mostly purchasing only what they need, which is keeping the overall prices of the pulse down, it said.

Increased arrivals in domestic markets across India, along with large volumes of imports, are continuing to put downward pressure on prices. "Desi tur arrivals from farmers are coming in gradually, as farmers want to sell leftover crops before the rain starts as holding it longer is risky," the association said.

Further weighing on the market are low cost and freight prices from Myanmar, cheaper offers from Africa, ample supply, and continued weak demand—factors that have led millers to delay fresh purchases.

The association also pointed out that the recent price decline appears to be more influenced by market sentiment than actual shifts in supply or demand. "Last week, millers had bought extra stock because of India-Pakistan tensions, but after the ceasefire news, buying slowed down," the report said.

In the week ended Saturday, tur prices in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, dropped by INR 237 from the previous week to INR 6,000–INR 7,116 per 100 kg. In Akola, Maharashtra, prices declined by INR 350 to INR 7,300–INR 7,325 per 100 kg, the association added. End
