NEW DELHI – Indian armed forces on Tuesday killed three "hardcore terrorists" in an encounter at Jammu & Kashmir's Shopian area, Additional Directorate General of Public Information said in a post on microblogging site on X, formerly Twitter. The operation, termed Operation Keller, was based on "specific intelligence" of a Rashtriya Rifles unit on terrorist activity in the area.

"Indian Army launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued," the post said. "Operation is in progress," it added.

According to media reports, this comes shortly after security agencies put up posters featuring three Pakistani terrorists — Adil Hussain Thoker, Ali Bhai, and Hashim Musa — who are suspected to have played a key role in the Apr. 22 Pahalgam terror attack. In the posters, a bounty of INR 2 million was announced for information leading to the neutralisation of the terrorists.

Operation Keller in the Valley area also comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a stern message that India would not tolerate terrorism and that the Army was empowered to undertake such operations to eliminate terrorists to protect the safety of the nation.

On May 7, Indian armed forces had launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation to the Pahalgam terrorist attack and struck at five terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir and four in Pakistan. As part of the operation, over 100 terrorists were killed.  End
