MUMBAI – Gold stocks held in the London Bullion Market Association's commercial vaults and by the Bank of England rose by 48 tonnes, or 0.6% on month, to 8,536 tonnes in April, the association said Thursday. The value of gold held was $906.2 billion, equal to around 682,855 gold bars, it said.
Silver stocks held in the association's vaults rose by 732 tonnes, or 3.3% on month, to 22,859 tonnes. The value of silver held was $23.7 billion, which is equal to around 761,960 silver bars.
While the month-on-month decline in gold stocks at the Bank of England was similar to that in March, commercial vaults across London saw another monthly increase in holdings, the association said.
"This trend reinforces the view that gold is continuing to move out of the Bank of England and into the broader Loco London system, as well as gold leaving CME warehouses as tariff fears eased and arbitrage opportunities disappeared," it said.
For silver, the association said the direction of flow shifted in April. "After steady month-on-month declines since the start of the year, holdings have now registered a positive increase, the first occasion since October 2024," it said. End
