MUMBAI – Urad prices are expected to remain stable to weak in the near term due to factors such as sluggish local demand and abundant supply from Myanmar, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report on Monday.
"The market is under pressure from increased imports from Myanmar," the association said. Moreover, with the upcoming summer crop in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, urad prices may remain under pressure in near term, it said. Also, shipments of urad from Brazil, which will begin from mid-June, will lead to further fall in prices of the legume, the association said.
Polished urad dal from Andhra Pradesh stayed weak during the week ended Saturday due to low demand. Traders and millers showed little buying interest, as per the report.
Prices of Myanmar-origin urad and domestic urad continued to fall due to low purchases by mills and subdued demand, the association said. In the week ended Saturday, prices of urad in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, remained steady in the range of INR 7,225-INR 7,250 per 100 kilogram and in Jalgaon, Maharashta, prices were down by INR 150 to 7,000-INR 7,400 per 100 kg, according to the association. Similarly, prices of imported urad in Chennai fell by INR 125 from the previous week to INR 6,825 per 100 kg. End
