Volume of gold transfers in London bullion mkt down 14% on month in March

MUMBAI – The volume of gold transferred in the London bullion market fell nearly 14% on month in March to 17.2 million ounces, according to the London Bullion Market Association. The value of gold transferred declined more than 11% on month to $51.4 billion in March.
There were 6,679 transfers in March, down 8.8% on month, with the clearers settling 2,580 ounces per transfer on average, 5.4% lower than the previous month, the association said.
Similarly, the volume of silver transferred during the month fell nearly 5% on month to 266.6 million ounces. The value of silver transferred fell 2% on month to $8.8 billion. The number of transfers increased 21.8% to 3,636, with the clearers settling on average 73,322 ounces per transfer, down 22.2% on month. The average gold-silver ratio remained at 89.9 in March, unchanged from the previous month.
The clearing statistics represent the net volume of London gold and silver transfers settled between clearing members of the London Precious Metals Clearing Ltd., the association said. The members of London Precious Metals Clearing are HSBC, ICBC Standard Bank, JP Morgan, and UBS, it said. End
