MUMBAI – Tur prices are likely to remain under pressure due to weak demand, sufficient supply, and limited private trade, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in a weekly market update. Deliveries in May will also put pressure on prices, the association said.

According to the pulses body, sluggish demand for dals is also likely to weigh on prices. It will be interesting to see how the higher-priced varieties of tur are being sold during the coming week, it said.

Further supply of tur is expected from Myanmar next week. This is in addition to around 400 full containers already being at the port. Traders will closely monitor the progress in procurement and domestic demand for further trends, the association said.

Domestic tur prices remained under pressure in the previous week due to falling lemon tur prices and weak sentiment in local markets. Lower cost and freight quotes for imports from Myanmar reduced demand for tur dal as cheaper substitutes were available. Tur dal is the split, skinned form of tur. In addition, prices are also down because of slow procurement, the pulses body said.

Meanwhile, prices of imported tur from Myanmar remain higher than domestic prices in India, it said.

In the week ended Saturday, prices of tur in Akola, Maharashtra, fell by INR 100 from last week to INR 7,675-INR 7,700 per 100 kg, the association said. On the other hand, prices of the legume in Solapur, Maharashtra, rose by INR 100 from the previous week to INR 6,500-INR 7,500 per 100 kg.  End
