MUMBAI – Futures contracts for all spices rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Friday. Coriander gained on firm demand at lower prices and rising spot market prices. Turmeric rose due to lower crop estimates and reduced carryover stocks while jeera prices increased amid a weak production outlook, analysts at SMC Global Securities said.

The most-active May contract of TURMERIC rose 1.3% to INR 14,254 per 100 kilogram, driven by lower crop estimates and reduced carryover stocks, according to SMC Global Securities. Prices were also supported by a sharp decline in arrivals at the key trading hub of Nizamabad, while new arrivals are likely to dry up by April-end in Maharashtra. Turmeric exports rose 12% on year to 11,770 tonnes in January and 16% to 152,000 tonnes in Apr–Jan, SMC Global Securities said. Higher exports could also support prices, the brokerage said.

The most-active June contract of JEERA rose 1.5% to INR 22,540 per 100 kg as exporters were buying aggressively due to a weak production outlook, analysts at SMC Global said. Farmers are holding on to stocks in anticipation of higher prices, though concerns over export prospects could weigh on prices, the brokerage added.

The most-active May contract of CORIANDER gained 0.4% to INR 7,452 per 100 kg due to firm demand at lower prices, as per SMC Global Securities. Concerns about lower production also supported prices, the brokerage said. In the near term, coriander is expected to trade between INR 7,400 and INR 7,800 per 100 kg.
