MUMBAI – Wheat prices rose marginally Tuesday as arrivals in local markets fell because of the ongoing wedding season and Akshaya Tritiya, which is on Wednesday, traders said. Prices of maize continued to fall due to pressure from rabi arrivals. However, rice prices remained unchanged from the previous day.

Prices of mill-quality WHEAT in Rajasthan's Kota rose by INR 15-INR 20 to INR 2,400 per 100 kg as arrivals fell ahead of Akshaya Tritiya, local trader Aniket Mehta said. Arrivals in the market were down to 50,000 bags from the previous day's 100,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Farmers did not bring wheat to the market due to Akshaya Tritiya and ongoing wedding season, Mehta said. Kota market will be shut Wednesday on account of Akshaya Tritiya.

Prices of mill-quality wheat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh rose by INR 10 to INR 2,680 per 100 kg as arrivals fell, said local trader Gaurav Kochar. On Tuesday, arrivals in Indore were down by 1,000 bags at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg). Prices of the grain in Delhi were up by INR 10 at INR 2,660 per 100 kg, according to traders. Prices of the same quality wheat were steady in Navi Mumbai's Vashi market at INR 2,750 per 100 kg, Devendra Vora, a wholesale dealer, said.

The Food Corp. of India has met nearly 74% of its wheat procurement target of 31.3 million tonnes for the 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) rabi marketing season as purchases picked up pace in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. As of Sunday, FCI bought 23.04 million tonnes wheat, up 29.3% from 17.8 million tonnes purchased last year, official data reviewed by Informist showed.

Prices of MAIZE in Indore fell by INR 50 to INR 2,215 per 100 kg due to increasing pressure from summer arrivals, leading to more stock, Kochar said. The trader does not see any further downside in prices as there is demand for the grain from ethanol plants.

Prices of the 1401 basmati RICE variety in Vashi market were steady at INR 6,800 per 100 kg, and those of the 1509 variety were also unchanged at INR 6,800 per 100 kg. Prices of kolam rice in the Vashi market were steady at INR 5,200–INR 5,400 per 100 kg, Vora said. Prices of broken rice also remained steady at INR 2,700 per 100 kg, he added.

In Vijayawada's Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh, prices of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati rice variety, were steady at INR 5,000 per 100 kg, local trader Ravi Shankar said. According to traders, prices are likely to remain at the lower end due to subdued demand and ample supply in domestic markets.  End
