Centre eases wheat procurement norms in Uttar Pradesh for 2025-26 rabi season

MUMBAI – The Centre has eased norms for wheat procurement in all districts of Uttar Pradesh during the ongoing rabi marketing season 2025-26, the Department of Food and Public Distribution said in a notification on Sturday. Lustre loss in wheat containing up to 90% affected kernels can now be procured without any value cut, in all districts of Uttar Pradesh, it said. 

 

This move will reduce the hardship of farmers and avoid distress sale of wheat, it said. 

 

However, the wheat procured should only be consumed within the state, according to the notification. Any deterioration in the quality of wheat stock procured under relaxed norms during stroage shall be the sole responsibility of the state government, it said.

 

Wheat stocks procured under relaxed specifications will be liquidated on an overriding priority basis. The notification also stated that any financial or operational implications due to this relasation would be the responsibility of the sate government.  End
