Govt mandates use of Aadhaar number for procurement operations

NEW DELHI – In an attempt to streamline procurement operations, the government has mandated the use of the Aadhaar number to establish the identity of individuals availing benefits under government procurement schemes, according to a notification by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Central nodal agencies such as the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. and National Co-operative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd., which are administering the Price Support Scheme, the Price Deficit Payment Scheme, and the Market Intervention Scheme, have been mandated to use Aadhar numbers for verification before procurement, the notification said.
Individuals desiring to avail the benefits under these schemes should undergo authentication or furnish proof of possession of the Aadhaar number, the notification said. End
