MUMBAI – Soybean and groundnut prices were steady in Indore and Gondal, respectively, traders said. Mustard prices fell in Jaipur owing to huge arrivals of degraded quality seed, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed were down INR 50 at INR 6,325-INR 6,375 per 100 kg in Jaipur, Rajasthan, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals across India were 675,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 50,000 bags from Tuesday.
"Due to increasing arrivals, mustard prices are under pressure. This trend is likely to continue in the coming month," said a commodity analyst from a multinational food and agricultural company, requesting anonymity.
"Procurement of the new mustard crop has started in some mandis of Rajasthan and Haryana, which can help prices to recover a bit in the near-to-medium term," said Mahesh Sameriya, a trader from Rajasthan.
SOYBEAN prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 4,250-INR 4,634 per 100 kg with arrivals increasing by 100 bags to 3,800 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), said Narendra Porwal, a trader from the state. "Poor demand for soymeal is leading to less crushing of soybean, which is affecting prices negatively," Porwal said.
The Soybean Processors Association of India has urged the government not to sell soybean procured by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd. till sowing of the crop is over, the association said in a release Wednesday. Soybean is a kharif crop sown in Jun-Jul and harvested in Oct-Nov.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were also steady at INR 4,200-INR 5,750 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. "Sluggish domestic and international demand along with low-quality arrivals now almost everyday are not supporting prices," said Virvani. He does not expect prices to rise in the near-to-medium term.
