NEW DELHI - Futures contracts of all spices fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Wednesday. While prices of turmeric and jeera fell on profit booking, those of coriander were down due to increased arrivals in most of the spot markets across India, according to analysts at SMC Global Securities.

The most-active May contract of TURMERIC fell 1.7% to INR 14,750 per 100 kg on profit-booking following the recent surge in prices, SMC Global said. The long-term trend is, however, expected to be bullish, supported by supply-side factors such as lower crop estimates and reduced carryover stocks, it said. In the near term, turmeric is likely to trade in the range of INR 14,700-15,400 per 100 kg.

The most-active May contract of JEERA fell 1.6% to INR 24,225 per 100 kg on intermediate profit booking, analysts at SMC Global said. However, various factors like lower selling by farmers and active miller buying support due to likely crop losses in Gujarat and Rajasthan, along with lower acreage this season, may limit the downfall, the brokerage firm said. In the near term, jeera is likely to trade in the range of INR 24,200-INR 25,000 per 100 kg.

The most-active May contract of CORIANDER traded down for the fifth consecutive day at INR 7,644 per 100 kg due to increased arrivals in most of the spot markets across India. Weak buying interest is also forcing prices down, the brokerage said. Decline in exports too led to fall in prices. However, lower output estimates are likely to support buying activity, thus limiting the downside, SMC Global said. In the near term, coriander futures are likely to trade between INR 7,500 and INR 7,900 per 100 kg.
