MUMBAI – Urad prices are likely to remain steady in the near term, with millers buying only as needed, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in a weekly report on Monday. Millers are holding back from purchases due to weak demand for processed urad, or urad dal, it said.
The country is receiving steady shipments of urad from Myanmar, and the ongoing arrivals of the rabi crop in Andhra Pradesh should limit any rise in prices. Imports from Myanmar are seen increasing after Wednesday, once the water festival wraps up in the country, the association said.
Prices of urad fell in the week ended Saturday due to weak demand for processed urad and a rise in rabi arrivals, the association said. Prices of urad in Chandausi, Andhra Pradesh, fell by INR 25 from last week to INR 7,375-INR 7,400 per 100 kg.
On the other hand, prices of imported urad rose during the week, tracking a rise in cost and freight prices and some buying from millers for immediate crushing needs. Prices of urad in Chennai rose by INR 25 from the previous week to INR 7,275 per 100 kg, according to the association. End
