US natural gas stocks rise by 57 bcf in week ended Apr 4, says EIA

MUMBAI – Natural gas inventory in the US rose by 57 billion cubic feet in the week ended Apr. 4, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. The inventory was 2.1% lower than the five-year average for this time of the year, the agency said in its weekly report.

 

It pegged total gas in underground storage at 1.83 trillion cubic feet as of Apr. 4, 19.7% lower than 2.28 trillion cubic feet a year ago. The stocks were 40 billion cubic feet less than the five-year average of 1.87 trillion cubic feet, according to the report.

 

Total working gas remained within the five-year historical range. The East, Mid-west, Pacific, and the Salt and Non-Salt south-central regions recorded a rise in stocks, while the Mountain region's inventory remained unchanged, according to the release.

 

Total consumption of natural gas in the US rose 6.7 billion cubic feet per day, or 9.3%, to 78.6 billion cubic feet compared to the previous week, according to data from S&P Global Commodity Insights.

 

Net injections into storage totalled 57 billion cubic feet for the week ended Apr. 4, compared with the five-year average net injection of 17 billion cubic feet and last year's net injections of 16 billion cubic feet during the same week, the report said.

 

The number of rigs drilling for natural gas in the US fell by seven to 96 in the week ended Apr. 1, energy services firm Baker Hughes said in a weekly report. A total of 30 liquefied natural gas vessels, with a combined carrying capacity of 113 billion cubic feet, departed the US between Apr. 3 and Apr. 9, according to shipping data provided by Bloomberg Finance LP.

 

Average natural gas deliveries to US LNG export terminals rose by 0.4 billion cubic feet per day last week to 16.6 billion cubic feet per day. At 1320 IST, the most active May contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was at $3.56 per million British thermal unit, unchanged from Thursday's close.  End
