India's pulses imports via Chennai port at 36,625 tn Mar 21-31 - trade body

MUMBAI – India imported 36,625 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port during Mar. 21-31, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association. The shipment of pulses from Myanmar was the highest at 31,875 tonnes, making up 87% of the total imports.

 

Most of the imports comprised urad shipments primarily from Myanmar due to a bumper crop there. At 22,775 tonnes, urad imports were the highest among all pulses acounting for around 62% of the total imports during the period. The country imported a whopping 21,575 tonnes from Myanmar, 1,025 tonnes from Brazil, and 175 tonnes from Thailand, according to the data.

 

India imported 7,950 tonnes of tur in total, with 7,850 tonnes from Myanmar, 75 tonnes from Uganda, and 25 tonnes from Tanzania, the data showed.

 

Total masur imports stood at 3,125 tonnes, according to the data. Of this, 1,575 tonnes were from the US, 1,425 tonnes from Canada, and 125 tonnes from Australia.

 

The country also imported 600 tonnes of chana from Myanmar. Imports of other pulses from Myanmar included 525 tonnes of black eye beans, 375 tonnes of cow peas, 250 tonnes of rajma, 225 tonnes of bocate beans, and 75 tonnes of red rajma, the data showed. India also imported 625 tonnes of brown eye beans, with 400 tonnes from Myanmar and 225 tonnes from Brazil, and 100 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar.

 

During the period, 1,465 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 1,275 were from Myanmar, the data showed.  End
