NEW DELHI – Mustard prices rose amid a slight decrease in arrivals in local markets, traders said. However, expectations of higher mustard arrivals in the coming weeks are likely to weigh on prices. Soybean prices fell amid excess supply and high soyoil imports, they added.

Prices of MUSTARD were up INR 25 at INR 6,375-INR 6,400 per 100 kg amid lower arrivals, traders said. Arrivals were slightly down at 950,000 tonnes from 1 million tonnes Saturday, according to Marudhar Trading Agency.

"Mustard prices have been around INR 6,300-6,450 for about two weeks," said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader from Rajasthan. Expectations of increased arrivals in April is weighing down on the oilseed prices, he said.

However, as the mustard production is expected to be lower this year, prices may gain some support in long-term, he added. The Solvent Extractors' Association of India estimates mustard output in the 2024-25 rabi season at 11.52 million tonnes, down from 11.58 million tonnes last year.

Prices of SOYBEAN were down INR 150 at INR 3,800-INR 4,300 per 100 kg, Shailendra Soni, a Madhya Pradesh trader, said. Arrivals were down 500 bags at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), he said.

Excess supply and weak demand are weighing on soybean prices, he added. Millers are less interested in bulk-buying soybean amid higher availability of imported soyoil. India imported 283,737 tonnes crude soyoil in February against 172,936 tonnes year, SEA said.

GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were down INR 100 at INR 4,300-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. "Weak export and domestic demand for groundnut and groundnut oil is weighing down on prices," said Ashok Virvani, a trader from Gujarat.
