MUMBAI – Urad prices are expected to stay range-bound at lower levels in the near term due to steady imports from Myanmar and the ongoing rabi crop arrivals in Andhra Pradesh, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report Monday.
Prices could also be under pressure because of weak demand from stockists, the association said. Millers are buying only as needed due to low demand for processed urad, which could limit price movement. Orders placed for urad shipments from Myanmar are scheduled for delivery in April, which could put pressure on prices in May, the association said.
In the week ended Saturday, prices of urad fell due to low purchases by millers amid high prices, low demand for processed urad, and a steady supply of both imports and the domestic crop. Prices of urad in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, fell by INR 200 per 100 kg from the previous week to INR 7,600 per 100 kg, according to the association. Prices of imported urad in the port city of Chennai fell by INR 125 per 100 kg to INR 7,800-INR 7,850 per 100 kg. End
