MUMBAI – Prices of tur are likely to remain under pressure due to weak demand from millers, as consumption of tur dal, or processed tur, drops in the summer, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report Monday.
Prices could also fall due to the availability of cheaper substitutes such as yellow peas, the association said. Slow progress in the government's procurement and lack of purchases by stockists is also weighing on prices, it said.
Orders placed for lemon tur shipments from Myanmar are scheduled for delivery in April, which could put pressure on prices in May and June, the association said.
Prices of both domestic and imported tur fell in the week ended Saturday due to weak demand from mills, which remained cautious amid slow wholesale and retail sales of processed tur. Prices of tur in Akola, Maharashtra, fell by INR 175 per 100 kg from last week to INR 7,600-INR 7,625. Prices of imported tur from Tanzania fell INR 50 per 100 kg from the previous week, to INR 7,200-INR 7,250 per 100 kg. End
