MUMBAI – Prices of mustard seed fell in Jaipur on Thursday while the prices of soybean and groundnut were steady in Indore and Gondal, traders said. On Wednesday, soybean prices had fallen because of abundant supply.

MUSTARD seed prices fell by INR 25 to INR 6,375-INR 6,400 per 100 kg in Jaipur, a trader from Marudhar Trading Agency said. All-India mustard arrivals were unchanged at 1.15 million tonnes.

"Mustard prices are expected to fall in the medium-term due to increasing pressure of arrivals," Mahesh Sameriya, a trader from Rajasthan, said. Farmers in the state are waiting for procurement of the new crop to start from Apr. 10, he said.

Mustard prices in Kota, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 5,900 per 100 kg even as arrivals increased by 6,000 bags to 16,000 bags, said Sameriya.

SOYBEAN prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,050 per 100 kg, even as arrivals rose by 500 bags to 4,500 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Prices of the best quality soybean were higher at INR 4,100-INR 4,300 per 100 kg, he said. "Prices are expected to fall in the near term (1-3 months) due to factors like excess availability of soybean in various mandis across India, high soyoil imports, and gradual replacement of soymeal in the feed industry with distillers' dried grains with solubles," said Porwal.

Soybean prices in Kota were steady at INR 4,500 per 100 kg with arrivals falling by 2,000 bags to 6,000 bags, Sameriya said.

GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were steady at INR 4,400-INR 5,950 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. "Due to poor export demand for Indian groundnut seed and groundnut meal in global markets, prices are not getting enough support and are expected to fall further," he added.
