MUMBAI – Prices of mustard seed rose in Jaipur and those of groundnut were up in Gondal on Wednesday, traders said. Prices of soybean fell in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, because of abundant supply and weak demand, they added.

MUSTARD seed prices rose by INR 25 to INR 6,400-INR 6,425 per 100 kg in Jaipur, Rajasthan, a trader from Marudhar Trading Agency said. All-India mustard arrivals were at 1.15 million tonnes on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the arrivals were 800,000 tonnes.

"This improvement in the mustard prices will be short-lived, as pressure from the increasing arrivals may limit the rise in the mustard prices in the long-term," said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader from Rajasthan.

SOYBEAN prices in Indore fell by INR 50 to INR 3,800-INR 4,050 per 100 kg, with arrivals increasing by 1,000 bags to 4,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. "Due to excess availability of soybean in local markets across India and poor demand for soybean in domestic and global markets, there has been a decline in oilseed prices," said Porwal. Also, due to excess imports of soyoil in India, domestic prices of soybean are being affected negatively, he added.

Soyoil imports are estimated to have increased 25% month-on-month to 355,000 tonnes in March, according to estimates by GGN Research, accessed by Informist. "This represents a substantial 62% increase compared to March 2024," said Rajesh G. Patel, managing partner of GGN Research.

GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were up by INR 100 at INR 4,400-INR 5,950 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. "There was a slight increase in prices on Wednesday, however, this improvement will not continue long due to poor export demand," he said. "The government has purchased most of the good quality groundnuts which has led to availability of poor quality groundnuts in local mandis of Gujarat," he added.
