India's pulses imports via Chennai port at 28,800 tn Mar 13-20 - trade body

MUMBAI – India imported 28,800 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port during Mar. 13-20, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association. At 26,775 tonnes, shipment of pulses from Myanmar was the highest, accounting for around 93% of the total imports.
Most of the imports comprised of urad shipments primarily from Myanmar due to a bumper crop there. Urad imports were the highest among all pulses at 19,550 tonnes, making up nearly 68% of the total imports during the period. The country imported 19,100 tonnes from Myanmar and 450 tonnes of urad from Brazil, according to the data.
Total masur imports were at 1,300 tonnes, according to the data. Of this, 200 tonnes were from the US, 975 tonnes from Canada, and 125 tonnes from Australia.
India imported 6,400 tonnes of tur, 300 tonnes and chana, 400 tonnes of rajma, and 475 tonnes of black eye beans from Myanmar, the data showed.
Imports of other pulses included 225 tonnes of brown eye beans, of which 100 tonnes came from Myanmar and 125 tonnes from Brazil, the data showed. The country also imported 100 tonnes of black beans from Brazil, and 50 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar.
During the period, 1,152 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 1,071 were from Myanmar, the data showed. End
