MUMBAI – Prices of mustard seed and soybean rose in Jaipur and Indore, respectively, on Friday, traders said. Spot prices of groundnut in Gondal, Gujarat, were not available as the markets were closed, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur rose by INR 100 to INR 6,300-INR 6,325 per 100 kg, a trader from Marudhar Trading Agency said. All-India mustard arrivals fell to 700,000 tonnes from 800,000 tonnes on Thursday. "Farmers are bringing less arrivals to mandis nowadays," the trader said. As per the trader, the farmers are more interested in selling new mustard crop to government agencies and, hence they will bring more arrivals to mandis when procurement starts, he said. Government agencies will begin mustard procurement in Rajasthan from Apr. 10, he added.

Mustard prices in Kota mandi remained steady at INR 5,800 per 100 kg, with arrivals declining by 5,000 bags to 25,000 bags, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader.

SOYBEAN prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, rose by INR 50 at INR 3,850-INR 4,100 per 100 kg, with arrivals decreasing by 500 bags to 3,000 bags (1 bag = 90 kg), said Vijay Parashar, a local trader. "This is a temporary improvement which will be short-lived as there is a continuous pressure of the increasing arrivals, high soyoil imports, and sluggish demand for Indian soymeal in both domestic and international markets," said Parashar.

Soybean prices in Kota mandi remained stable at INR 4,181 per 100 kg, with arrivals increasing by 1,000 bags to 14,000 bags, Sameriya said.

GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were unavailable as the market was closed, said Dilipbhai Ramani, a local trader. Most spot markets such as Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh, and Saurashtra were closed, he said. Most mandis in Gujarat will remain shut for closing of accounts at the end of the financial year, he said. Markets will resume trade on Tuesday, he added.
