MUMBAI – The overall mustard production for the crop year 2024-25 (Jul-Jun) is seen at 11.13 million tonnes, according to the latest mustard production estimates from the 45th All India Rabi Seminar held on Saturday and Sunday in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, said iGrain India on social media platform X.
States such as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab are likely to collectively contribute the bulk of India's mustard output, with production from these states estimated at 9.2 million tonnes out of the national total of 11.13 million tonnes.
As per the estimates, Rajasthan alone accounts for nearly 46% of total production at 5.1 million tonnes with 3.38 million hectares under cultivation and a yield of 1,500 kilogram per hectare. According to iGrain India data, Haryana and Punjab have the second-highest yield in the country at 1,600 kg per hectare, despite having only 0.78 million hectares under mustard with production seen at 1.25 million tonnes. Meanwhile, yields in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are 1,100 kg per hectare and 1,040 kg per hectare, respectively, with strong acreage of 1.36 million and 1.30 million hectares.
Gujarat, despite having only 0.26 million hectares under mustard, is seen to have a commendable yield of 1,825 kg per hectare, the highest in the country. However, its total estimated production remains low at 0.48 million tonnes due to limited acreage.
In contrast, Assam and West Bengal struggle with poor yields with 950 kg per hectare and 9.5 kg per hectare, respectively. Despite these challenges, West Bengal manages to show production of 0.6 million tonnes due to a relatively larger cultivation area of 0.64 million hectares.
Collectively other states contribute from 0.85 million tonnes to 1.21 million hectares with average yield of 700 kg per hectare, the lowest among all groups. India's overall mustard yield stands at 1,245 kg per hectare, with 8.93 million hectares under cultivation, the data showed. End
