MUMBAI – Futures contracts of coriander fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange while those of jeera and turmeric rose. Prices of coriander were down because of subdued domestic demand, while turmeric prices rose due to an increase in export demand, analysts said.

At 1354 IST, the most-active April contract of CORIANDER was down 0.7% at INR 7,920 per 100 kg due to subdued domestic demand, according to SMC Global Securities. However, a weak production outlook could support prices, the brokerage firm said. Total production of coriander is projected to decline 11% to 630,000 tonnes in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar). In the near term, coriander futures are likely to trade between INR 7,700 and INR 8,100 per 100 kg.

At 1355 IST, the most-active April contract of TURMERIC was up 0.5% at INR 13,118 per 100 kg due to higher domestic as well as export demand, as per SMC Global Securities. However, a surge in arrivals due to an early harvest in Telangana could weigh on prices, the brokerage firm noted.

The spot price of turmeric at the Perundurai regulated market in Erode, Tamil Nadu, was INR 10,111-13,369 per 100 kg, said Amrutlal Kataria, a trader from Hyderabad. Arrivals were at 448 bags (1 bag = 40 kgs), he said.

At 1356 IST, the most-active April contract of JEERA rose 0.2% to INR 22,125 per 100 kg, owing to increased demand amid the wedding season and higher export demand, analysts at SMC Global Securities said.

Demand from China has surged in the recent months, with the country purchasing about 3,940 tonnes of jeera in December, compared to just 653 tonnes in the same period last year. A weaker production outlook, driven by above-normal temperatures in key producing states and strong exports, also supported prices, said Amit Gupta, an analyst at Kedia Advisory. In the near term, jeera futures are likely to trade in the range of INR 21,200 to INR 21,800.
