MUMBAI – Prices of wheat in Kota, Rajasthan, on Monday were slightly up on the back of firm demand despite a surge in arrivals from the previous trading day, traders said. However, wheat prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, slightly fell due to rise in arrivals across the country, as per the traders. Prices of maize were down in Indore while prices of rice were steady, traders added.

Prices of mill-quality WHEAT rose by INR 10-INR 15 to INR 2,400-INR 2,450 per 100 kg in Kota due to firm demand, local trader Aniket Mehta said. However, arrivals surged to 100,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 30,000 bags on the previous trading day, Mehta said. Traders said the government's procurement and demand from multinational companies supported prices despite high arrivals.

Prices of wheat in Delhi were also up by INR 30 at INR 2,840 per 100 kg, according to traders. However, wheat prices in Indore fell by INR 20 to INR 2,680 per 100 kg from the previous day due to high arrivals across the country, local trader Gaurav Kochar said. But arrivals in the market were unchanged from the previous day at 8,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), he said.

In the near term, prices could rise by INR 100-INR 200 per 100 kg even though pressure from arrivals is already there because of central government's procurement, traders said. Prices are unlikely to fall below INR 2,600 per 100 kg as Madhya Pradesh government has announced a bonus of INR 175 per 100 kg over the minimum support price of INR 2,425 per 100 kg.

Meanwhile, the Food Corp. of India's wheat purchases to date have surged 9.3 times more on year to 52,197 tonnes in the 2025-26 rabi marketing season due to an early start of procurement and bonuses over the minimum support price, an FCI official told Informist. FCI bought 5,619 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.

Prices of kolam RICE from Nagpur, Maharashtra, remained steady at INR 5,200–INR 5,400 per 100 kg and those of new basmati rice were unchanged at INR 6,000-INR 6,400 per 100 kg in the Vashi market, Devendra Vora, a wholesale broker, said. Prices are at their lowest level currently and are likely to hover on the lower side because of subdued demand and increasing rabi rice arrivals, he said.

In Indore, prices of MAIZE were down by INR 75 at INR 2,370 per 100 kg due to fall in demand and rising arrivals, Kochar said. Traders expect maize prices to rise by INR 100-INR 200 per 100 kg over the next three months. "This upward trend is expected to begin once new arrivals in the market start decreasing," Kochar said.  End
