India's Apr-Dec spices exports up 13.4% on year at 1.22 mln tn; jeera up 67%

MUMBAI – India exported 1.22 million tonnes of spices in Apr-Dec, up 13.4% on year from 1.08 million tonnes exported a year ago, according to data from the Spices Board of India. Total exports of spices in dollar terms rose 9.4% on year to $3.36 billion during Apr-Dec. In rupee terms, exports rose 11% to INR 281.94 billion, the data showed.
The exports of jeera rose 67% on year to 178,846.56 tonnes in the first nine months of 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), the data showed.
Chilli exports jumped 14% on year to 435,891.14 tonnes, the report said. The exports of turmeric rose 13% on year to 136,921.04 tonnes while fennel exports grew a whopping 110% on year at 67,153.4 tonnes. Fenugreek exports were up 49% on year at 31,682.38 tonnes and those of ginger increased 49% on year to 65,106.58 tonnes, the data stated.
Exports of small cardamom jumped 37.3% on year to 4,926.4 tonnes while those of large cardamom rose 16% on year to 915.41 tonnes. Pepper exports grew 23% to 15,320.5 tonnes in the first nine months of the current financial year. Exports of other spices, which include asafoetida, cinnamon, cassia, cambodge, and saffron, fell by 0.3% to 54,143.7 tonnes, as per the report.
Exports of Celery were up 35% on year at 6,750.27 tonnes while nutmeg and mace exports rose 5% on year to 3,811.7 tonnes.
Exports of garlic, coriander, other seeds, and mint products fell in terms of volume. Exports of coriander fell 50% on year to 43,609.44 tonnes while that of garlic declined 61% to 25,770.79 tonnes. Exports of other seeds, which include ajwain seeds, dill seeds, poppy seeds, aniseeds, and mustard seeds, fell 18% on year to 25,466.71 tonnes.
Exports of mint products, which include menthol, menthol crystals, and other mint oils, declined 2.6% on year to 20,119.78 tonnes.
India is the largest producer of turmeric, coriander, and jeera.
